About Kapil G. Kapoor, MD, FACS
Kapil G. Kapoor, is a board certified ophthalmologist specializing in vitreoretinal surgery. He received his undergraduate degrees in Biology, Psychology and Health Sciences, and completed medical school at The Ohio State University. He then attended the University of Texas Medical Branch - Galveston, where he completed his residency in ophthalmology as Co-Chief Resident.
Dr. Kapoor furthered his training with a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where he was also classically trained in the principles of the ethics of medicine He remains committed to Mayo Clinic’s mission that focuses on patient-centered compassionate care.
He is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and Chair of Retina at Eastern Virginia Medical School, has served as President of the Virginia Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons and also volunteers his time to provide free eye care at the Lions Eye Clinic.
With over a decade’s experience in the field, Dr. Kapoor is a progressive leader in the healthcare space. He has been passionately involved in ophthalmology research as part of his mission to deliver the best care possible to his patients. He is Co-Founder and President of the Wagner Kapoor Research Institute which has been actively engaged in over 75 clinical trials, often one of the only sites in the region offering sight-saving treatment. He has published over 70 research papers and book chapters in many national scientific journals.
In his spare time, Dr. Kapoor and his wife Dr. Elleni Kapoor, a children's dentist, enjoy traveling the world and raising their three children in Hampton Roads.
